My dog is a English Foxhound, sort of like a beagle, and she’s recently been taking to licking the furniture. We’ve caught her doing it to the couch, chair, bed spreads, pillows, etc. I’ve read a couple questions similar to this but they all seem to be older dogs. Sugar will be 5 in April of 2010. We haven’t talked with a vet yet, but we are certainly going to if the problem persists. We tell her to stop every time we see her doing it, and if she doesn’t we’ll give her our hand or arm to lick. She normally stops after a while, but she does it quite a bit.
Anyone know why?

My pug does that too. Very much. Dogs have glands in their mouths that also let them smell, so when dogs have anything wrong with their sinus’s or anything of that kind, they’ll lick everything as another way of smell.
