Dogs can moan for some of the same reasons people do: if they’re overweight; if it’s a strain on their joints; growing pains; or even just their breathing pattern.
If he breathes in right before he lays down, the impact of him laying down and breathing out at the same time will produce a moan. Since he is a large breed too, hopefully he isn’t growing too fast and it’s causing problems with his joints.
A moan is different than a whine though. If he’s whining he probably needs to see a Veterinarian to make sure he isn’t hurt or that he isn’t growing too fast. Yes, dogs can grow too fast, especially if only fed puppy food. It helps sometimes if large breed dogs are fed a 50/50 combination of puppy food and adult food so they don’t grow too fast.
