I wish to have a largest dog breed as my pet but I am apprehensive, I might not be able to control it myself when it gets bigger and bigger. I would be very thankful for all your suggestions.

I think the easiest to handle once big is the Irish Wolfhound. Most of those that I see are such calm dogs that they just trot along with you.
I remember we had one puppy come to the dog club I was sec. of and it started off in the puppy class with all the other pups. By the time it was 5 months old he was just towering above all the others, and I just couldn’t believe the growth rate each week when I saw him.

with the space/ exercise requirements met along with dedicated, early and consistant training any giant breed would be great. It really depends on what you are willing to commit to the relationship.

The size of the dog isn’t too relevant – after all, people control and train horses.
But, if you’re a new dog person, I’d suggest one of the “softer” giants such as an Irish Wolfhound, Scottish Deerhound or fawn Great Dane.
Good luck!

Well my favourite breed is a German shepperd because they are extremly loyal to their families and one of the smartest trainable dogs ever! So just my opinion!

Are you sure you want large dog? They need good exercise, they will need big outdoor space (safe enclosure) fair amount of food, and plenty of money in your pocket to pay for vet bills.
I’d say germen shepherd would be big enough to start with, and they are smart, loyal dogs, easy to train (if you are prepared to put an effort in it)
Newfoundland is great dog breed if you want that Gentle Giant thats great fun, loyal, frendly, easy to train. But they will shed, so youll have to take good care of its coat.
Also Bullmastiff and Great Dane are great dogs if you really want to go for giant dog. but they can be stubborn, they have to be socialised very early with children and other pets.

Size has nothing to do with training the dog when it is young so that you can control it.
3 of my dogs outweigh me but I can easily control them

If you are not an experienced dog owner, then I would certainly not start off with the largest dog breed, I think this would be most unwise.
How much time can you give to your dog, what type of home will it be kept in, how often will you be able to exercise your dog, will you be capable of training a large dog?
These are the more important questions that need to be answered before picking a breed.
All dogs can be very loyal to their owner.
Now I admit, I am biased because I’ve had German Shepherd Dogs for nearly 40 years and just love them!

I would say that as you are apprehensive now, maybe you might want to consider a slightly smaller breed instead. I think you should consider why you want the largest possible breed? Can you afford to feed and insure a giant breed? as they will not be light eaters and insurance policies can sometimes differ enormously depending on breed. Have you the time to exercise a dog of this size and the room in your house?
These are just some of the questions I would be thinking about to begin with that you may feel applicable. Have you considered a Rescue Greyhound? They are fairly large but make super pets..
Males 28-30 inches (71-76cm.) Females 27-28 inches (68-71cm.)
The Greyhound is brave, and devoted. Intelligent, laid-back, charming and loving.
