I just adopted a very sweet little rat terrier puppy from the shelter. She weighs about 4-5 lbs and appears to have the taller, thinner “Type A” Rat Terrier body type. She is still teething (her molars are still coming in) and she is estimated 4 months old. I am wondering how big she will get- the miniature ones only get to about 7-9 lbs. as far as I can tell, and the regular ones can weigh 15+ lbs full grown. I can’t tell if she is a “miniature” or not. I guess “Toy” is another smaller sized version but I dont think that she is that small.
Also she is doing a reverse sneeze thing alot. Its not kennel cough and she is otherwise healthy- is this breed prone to reverse sneezing? I thought only short nosed breeds were?
She also has a long tail (fully extended, it goes more than 1/2 the length of her legs) and I don’t see any long tails on any rat terrier pictures online. I guess people dock them? I don’t see the purpose and I would never think of doing that. I am just wondering if it’s normally something they are born with.
Any answers from someone familiar with this breed would be very helpful…. thanks!
is there a way to tell if she is a “miniature” or a “regular” size?
Is reverse sneezing dangerous for a puppy (it’s scary!)
