Just curious about this dog. I do not intend on ever owning one. I know they’re active, but does it compare to the active life of a Siberian Husky? I’ve heard they are not good family pets, does anyone know by experience, or of any owners that have experience, if this is true? Thanks.

They were bred for entirely different purposes, so comparison would be rather difficult.
A Sibe is bred to pull and run for hours on end.
Whereas a Bear Dog has been bred to leave their owners in search of game.
Siberian Huskies tend to be more suited for “family pet” life, but that may have more to do with “breeders” breeding them for such a purpose, and away from their original life.
While Bear Dogs are still quite close to their “wild” ancestry, as the public has not given such a rise in demand for this breed.
However, that is not to say that all Karelian Bear Dogs make horrible pets. This breed is known for making a strong bond with it’s owner or “family” but it takes a ton of work to establish such a bond.
