My new akita is getting picked up at the end of November and i need some help on how to train him to like our Older Lab and Chihuahua mix. My Lab isnt the friendliest dog plus he’s old. Could there be problems in the future? HELP!! We certainly dont want to give away the new pup but we want peace amongst the dogs.

Puppies are social. Though the Akita as a breed can sometimes be intolerant of other dogs, a puppy won’t be. You may have to worry about getting the older dog to like the puppy, but the puppy will naturally like the older dog and probably bug him a lot.
As the puppy grows up, make sure to socialize well. This breed is not for beginners and can be troublesome if you don’t know what you’re doing. I don’t have the best feeling about someone getting this breed that is asking a question such as this…
Before the puppy is fully vaccinated, you should socialize, but make sure all the dogs you socialize him/her with are fully vaccinated. Just having the puppy around your dogs isn’t enough. You want to get this puppy used to meeting strange dogs, people and other animals, as often as possible.
